Our story...

Here we try to tell our story about the Beauceron (from our point of view only!)

Why choose a Beauceron?

Well there are many resons for chosing a Beauceron as a breed, such as looks, character, personality and maybe even size or colour. We can only speak from  our point of view, and the answere to that would be that the Beauceron is a most versile breed, who has a very special personality. Itīs a dog who gives you 100 % of itself, if you give it back. Itīs a very proud dog, with lots of selfawareness & dominance, yet soft to itīs master. Itīs not a dog you throw on itīs back to show it you are the leader, but be hard and firm, use your voice and body language, and you will get respect and be obeyed. We strongly feel that Beaucerons are like a "piece of cley", which you can shape in to almost anything you want, if the foundation is solid (like leader, like dog....). Itīs quite a big dog, but inside the house the Beauceron often takes itīs place close to the owner and knows when and how to relax. Itīs a dog who loves to work but doesnīt go "crazy" if donīt work in a week or two. A Beauceron has a strong herding instinct and likes to be around you, and to be a part of the family, all the time. Who doesnīt?

Character & work

To work with a Beauceron is a true challenge. This dog is always one step ahead of you, for better or worse, and can easily fool you. Itīs a first class acter! A Beauceron needs constant challenges on the working field, though itīs a fast learner and can easily get bored if you are stuck to the same training methods too long. A Beauceron loves to have fun and enjoys to use their head.

Itīs also a dog who is very sensitive to your signals, but shows very little body language. This can sometimes be a problem for handlers to deal with and we feel that this breed often is misread.

Most Beaucerons has natural defense drives, but lack of hunt/play drives, which can cause problems in bitework training if the handler/trainer is not aware of this. Always make sure your dog is secure in itīs part, secure with the attackman and that the training methods are based on the dog having fun. Never push the limits and always let your dog comes out as a winner.

The Beauceron loves to use their nose, and is a natural search dog. In Tracking they are quite fast, have a high nose and can be hard to read. "Whatīs the point of having your nose close to the ground, if you can smell the scent anyway"? Even here you must keep in mind that a Beauceron learns very fast and can get bored if you do not challenge their abilities every now and then.

The summary of all above would be that a Beauceron is a very intelligent breed who is not easily fooled, does not react unless there is a reson for it, but likes to do things their own way. Itīs fun to see how much some Beaucerons resembles their masters. Copycat?

Buying a Beauceron

When buying a pupp, we strongly recommend you to choose a breeder you trust in, and who breeds the type of dogs you like. Take your time to study both bitch and stud, and always demand to see their results in Character/Mentality- Tests! The pupp should stay with you for many years to come, so make sure you have the best deal from the beginning!

If you are looking for a Beauceron to work with, make sure the parents of your pupp has achieved something in the type of sport you like to practice, to have the best of chances to succeed. Titles are not inherited, but tells you a great deal about the capacity/talent for working, of the dogs used in breeding. A good handler can bring a dog far, but true quality in character & drives, combined with handler skills, can make your dog go all the way to the top. As we see it, itīs all about genes and teamwork.

Generaly, we also feel that a Beauceron is not a dog for a "first time dog owner".
